Curriculum
Peace Academy school has Pre-k until Eight grade , throughout which the Texas based Curriculum is taught.
In Pre-k and Kindergarten the children are introduced to the world of education in a way which lays the foundation for acquiring fundamental skills in literacy, moral values and strong faith.
In later grades the various subjects are introduced in a balanced way so that the children can grow academically, intellectually and also spiritually.
The school has strong departments throughout all phases teaching Arabic as a language, Islamic Studies, Mathematics , Computer Sciences, General Sciences and Social studies.
CURRICULUM (IMPLEMENTATION OF CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK)
The school's curriculum provides schooling in accordance with the Curriculum Framework
The school's teaching and learning programs and enriching experiences enable its students, including students with disabilities, to achieve the learning outcomes and develop the core shared values of the Curriculum Framework.
Whole-school planning
There is clear evidence of well-prepared whole school planning to fulfil all the requirements of Curriculum Framework implementation. The school has detailed documentation, which are linked to class programs. The school is to be commended for the process adopted to Involve all staff in the whole school planning process, the evidence of which is reflected in the detailed sequential documentation. Thus there is now a "5 Year Vision" plan for the school.
Monitoring student progress
A new report format has been developed which complies with State and Commonwealth requirements
The results of the TEKS and ISP testing programmes show that the school has achieved above state average results for literacy and numeracy for a number of years. These results do not reflect the non-English speaking background of the students but do reflect the effectiveness of the school's teaching.
Performance management
Effective teaching practice at the school is monitored through appropriate performance management procedures, which include self-appraisal and formal appraisal by the Principal. Provision for staff professional development is aligned to the outcome of the performance management.
Standards of literacy and numeracy
Students' standards of literacy and numeracy at the school are at a satisfactory level. TEKS test results continue to reflect whole of school results above the State average. The school uses diagnosis of results to contribute to identifying individual students in need of support or extension programs. The school is to be commended on achieving these standards when the majority of students have an ESL background.
School and classroom environment
The learning and teaching program at the school is delivered within a positive, inclusive, safe and supportive school and classroom environment.
There is a very caring atmosphere and the relationship between teachers and students is friendly and respectful.
Islamic Studies Curriculum
Islamic Studies are conducted according to a structured curriculum that has been developed since the schools inception using sources that have been under development since the early 80's using English as the medium for instruction to ensure that the school is suitable for any child in the Muslim community.
Islamic Studies subjects include: Tawheed, Aqeedah, Essentials and Practices (Fiqh), Qur'an reading / recitation and memorization, Islamic History, Islamic Akhlaq and basic Arabic.
Islamic studies are also integrated with other subjects such as Science and Mathematics
